Where a Little of Your Time May Mean a Lifetime to a Child

Frequently Asked Questions

What does it mean for a child to be "at-risk"?
Partners only accepts youth, ages 8-17, who are professionally referred to us by other youth-serving agencies, such as Social Services, school counselors or the criminal justice department. These youth are referred to Partners because they are in need of positive intervention in their lives - without it, they are at-risk of making the kinds of choices that will ultimately be detrimental to their future.

The children we serve are on a continuum of low risk to high risk. Some of them have problems with school, some are neglected, and others may be victims of physical/sexual abuse, drug use or alcoholism in their family backgrounds. Many have low socio-economic statuses or live in single parent homes.

What kinds of things do Senior and Junior Partners do together?
Partners matches our adult mentors with children who have similar interests. Each Partnership varies in the activities they share - hiking, biking, cooking, taking classes, building things, going to the library, enjoying sports, exploring the community, watching movies, inventing projects, visiting museums, doing homework, Roller blading, attending concerts or sporting events, doing community service projects, or just hanging out (to name a few things)! The important thing is that your Junior Partner has someone who is spending time with them - giving them attention, stability and nurturing in their lives. Partners is always searching for discounts so that Partnerships can have fun and share new experiences at a lower cost.

How is Partners funded?
Boulder County Partners has a diverse funding base. We receive support from private, corporate and government grants, individual contributions, corporate/civic donations, foundation distributions and special events. Partners is also a United Way agency.
