Partners Mentoring Program
is a non-profit mentoring organization dedicated
to making a difference in the lives of at-risk young people by helping
them develop a positive self-image, a sense of belonging, and an
acceptance of responsibility through one-to-one mentoring.
Unfortunately, the number of children in crisis in Colorado is growing
at an accelerated rate. Many of these children lack a stable, attentive,
and nurturing presence in their lives. Our society now sees a myriad
of problems resulting from this. From terrible conditions of neglect
to increasing occurrence of gang violence, saving our youth must
become a priority.
Partners believes it is easier to build a child than to repair
an adult. One of the most effective ways to change the unstable
patterns in the lives of our youth is through mentoring. As a mentor,
we ask our Senior Partners to be an advocate, positive role model,
and friend to their Junior Partner. This one-to-one relationship
between a mature adult and a troubled child will provide positive
alternatives to the child's otherwise unstable lifestyle.
Founded in Denver in 1968, Partners was created in response to a
growing rate of delinquency among teenagers. Today, Partners continues
to redirect youth - helping them break the cycle of negative behavior.
The Partners model came to Boulder County in 1985 through the efforts
of the District Attorney, the Chief of Probation, and concerned
citizens who realized the need for benefits of this award winning
mentorship program.
There are currently 9 affiliate Partners organizations nationally.
Together we have served over 45,000 kids. Boulder County Partners
alone has served over 2,300 kids since it was formed. Right now there
are about 65 active Partnerships and there are always kids waiting
for a mentor.
Mentoring is a timeless strategy for helping youth mature into
healthy adults. Over the last few years, the effectiveness of highly
structured mentoring services has been supported by the Presidents
Summit on America's Future, former President Bush's Points of Light
Foundation, the Carnegie Council of Adolescent Development, and
Public/Private Ventures. |
